| Before contacting us for any information or help for Zoom, please be sure to read the FAQ. If you didn't find your question in this FAQ, please send us an e-mail at techsupport@dachshundsoftware.com. Thanks! Last update: September 20, 2002 Q. What can Zoom accelerate? [Back] About everything that has to do with startup or shutdown; it can accelerate startups, shutdowns, reboots, standbys, wake up from standbys, hibernations and wake up from hibernations. Q. Will Zoom accelerate programs? [Back] No, this is not something Zoom can do. For program acceleration, you would have to use Hare, one of our other products. Q. How does Zoom work? [Back] Unlike other shutdown acceleration programs, Zoom doesn't simply accelerate application closing and stop shutdown sound. It can also accelerate startups, something no other program can do. - On shutdown,
it simply forces the computer to shutdown faster, without force-quitting
applications, which means that Zoom does all the flushing/cleaning business
instead of Windows, and it does it much faster. Additionally, it replaces
a load DLL in order to accelerate the next startup. Q. Do I need the 'Detected required reboots' function? [Back] If you're asking, you probably don't. This is not meant to be used by desktop users, or it will restart the computer without warning every time Zoom thinks your computer needs to be rebooted. But for servers, this function can be very useful as it allows a dynamic reboot - less loss of time if the server doesn't need to be rebooted at fixed hours, and better efficiency if it needs to be rebooted before it has been programmed to do so. Q. A question isn't answered here. Now what? [Back] Simply e-mail us at techsupport@dachshundsoftware.com. Thanks!
